Solutions
GGL provides complete project solutions for standard, small-scale designs and modular, custom engineered solutions for larger projects. Standard, skid mounted designs are available for short cycle time projects in small-scale geothermal brine and hot liquid applications. Modular, customer engineered solutions are designed for larger projects based on proven, first generation power plant designs. Our systems are based on the patented Kalina Cycle®. GGL and its global licensees utilize this high efficiency power plant technology as a basis for geothermal and waste heat power plant projects.
Small-scale, skid mounted packaged units
Our standard, skid packaged unit is available in project sizes beginning at 50 kW net electricity generation. For geothermal projects, brine inlet temperatures as low as 175°F can be used. These closed cycle systems are typically designed for capacities between 50 kW and 1000 kW based on unattended operation. Shop assembled power plants in standard sizes are available to reduce project engineering costs and improve project cycle times.

Modular, engineered solutions for geothermal and recovered energy projects
Multiple heat source solutions for cement kilns and other applications
The Kalina Cycle® is particularly efficient with varying temperature, multiple heat source applications such as cement kilns. The working fluid is heated directly in the boilers, eliminating the need for a secondary heat transfer system. Efficiency gains of 20% to 40% are possible for recovered energy power generation projects in modern cement manufacturing facilities. GGL and its licensees have proven boiler designs for high dust gases and our modular engineering approach is applied on new and existing cement kiln projects to maximize net power production without interfering with cement plant operations. GGL provides a full range of project services from project feasibility studies through project construction and commissioning work.

New heat recovery solutions for advanced solar trough power plants and other applications
The Kalina Cycle® uses a mixture as its working fluid, providing unprecedented flexibility which can be leveraged in new heat source applications. The mixture’s thermodynamic properties combined with our modular design approach improves project economics. One new area of application is solar trough power plants. In these facilities the diurnal nature of the sun dictates the need to maximize net generation during periods of operation. Daily variations in heat source and cooling sink temperatures are better optimized for power generation by using the Kalina Cycle®. Developing project basic engineering designs for new power plant applications is a service provided by GGL to support the development and demonstration of new, high efficiency power project technologies.
